Manuel Joseph Walker is a songsmith from San Bernadino, California, using the moniker Foliage for his DIY bedroom pop songs. Having released his debut album at the age of 16, now at 21, Walker is already three Foliage albums into his career, with no. 4 apparently just around the corner. Read on
With their very own brand of full-throttle pop-punk with a tune, Martha have established themselves as the legitimate champions of a whole punk-driven scene of UK indiepop in this decade: raw and loud, but always more bright than angry, more clever and funny than dark and brooding, and most certainly never ever adopting a stance their place of origin would suggest: Pity Me, County Durham. When Matt and Clare set fire to Sarah Records in 1995 and watched it burn, it happened for all the right reasons but it also left quite a few people, among them the person writing these lines, at a loss where to look for musical guidance. In the critical years following Sarah’s demise there were some artists whose attempts at filling the void made them all the more important.
